The Generosity of the Gesture: How creative making processes are intertwined with all that lives.
The upcoming Current Discourse of the Master of Art Education in Groningen (11th of March 2024) focuses on embodiment and ecology in art education.
The guest for this edition is Carolien Hermans – choreographer, performer, teacher, and researcher. Her latest book ‘Pedagogiek van het Onderweg Zijn’ has just been published – a collection of essays on the pedagogical environment, the dialogical process, and education as an in-between space.
Carolien Hermans will talk about relational aesthetics, about how our body as a giver of meaning intertwines with the world and how from there creative making processes are initiated. The body is not conceived here as a faithful companion but as a sensory organism that connects with everything else – in a directly felt proximity. The lecture is not about there, but about here, and about now, about the small, about sensory details, and about how we can arrive at a shared meaning from intimate, situated, and ecological knowledge.
After the lecture, we will explore in dialogue tables what this relational aesthetics and this more embodied and ecological art pedagogical approach mean for our art educational practices.
